In the Netherlands, you might find yourself at McDonald’s during your walk! Why? Because McDonald’s and the advertising agency TBWA\Neboko are aiming to draw you to their restaurants with a specially designed billboard placed on the streets of the Netherlands. So, what features do these billboards have?
McDonald’s style French fries scented billboard
This new advertising strategy uses a billboard that carries the scent of McDonald’s iconic French fries. These billboards attract attention not only with their colors but also with the scents they emit. They aim to catch the attention of everyone passing by and increase the desire for McDonald’s products.
Produced by Raul & Rigel and designed by TBWA\Neboko, these billboards symbolize McDonald’s with their colors and remind of the brand’s prominent flavors with their scents. Inside the billboard, there is a special compartment that emits the scent of McDonald’s fries.
Of course, the compartment doesn’t store actual fries, but thanks to its heating and ventilation system, the scent of McDonald’s fries is dispersed into the surroundings. These scented billboards are strategically placed near McDonald’s restaurants.
Thus, people who smell the scent are directed straight to the restaurant. With this creative advertising campaign, McDonald’s aims to increase brand awareness while maximizing customer interest in their restaurants. You can watch the video of the billboard here.
Currently, this scented billboard is only available in the Netherlands. Whether this creative advertising idea will be implemented in other countries and sectors is not yet clear. Do you think McDonald’s scented billboard strategy will be successful?
While the effect of scent on humans is undeniable, can this creative advertising method really draw people to McDonald’s? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
